David Grimm is the author of Citizen Canine: Our Evolving Relationship with Cats and Dogs, which traces the evolution of pets from wild animals to members of the family. He is the Online News Editor of Science magazine and also writes for the magazine, where he covers animal welfare, animal rights, and the science of cats and dogs. He received a bachelor of science degree in biochemistry and cell biology from the University of California, San Diego, and a Ph.D. in genetics from Yale University.
David is the winner of the 2010 Animal Reporting Award from the National Press Club. In 2009, one of his stories for Science, “The Mushroom Cloud’s Silver Lining,” was published in The Best American Science and Nature Writing 2009. His writing has also appeared in The Wall Street Journal, The Washington Post, Slate, Time, and a variety of other publications. He teaches science journalism at Johns Hopkins University.
